Paramount and Sega have just released a brand new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and guess what? There’s an unexpected nod to Pokémon in there that caught everyone by surprise.
It’s been a few months since we first got a glimpse of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and with the movie set to hit theaters in about a month, fans have been eagerly anticipating more. Well, today’s their lucky day! The second official trailer for this much-anticipated sequel dropped earlier, and it features a scene where a kid mistakes Tails for Detective Pikachu. Yes, you heard that right! Not only does it hint at some playful cross-references, but it also got me thinking about how a Sonic-Pokémon crossover might look. Imagine Sonic characters battling Pokémon… though I doubt Sonic would choose Shaymin just because it’s a hedgehog. Jolteon, on the other hand, with its cool style and ranking as the sixth fastest Pokémon, seems like a perfect match for him. Or maybe we’d see a “Knuckles as a Pokémon” scenario? Who knows! But one thing’s for sure, the trailer gives us a great sneak peek at the Chao-themed restaurant where Team Sonic hangs out—probably the highlight of the entire clip. Plus, there’s an emotionally charged scene with Shadow and Maria, which is sure to tug at the heartstrings of anyone who gets sentimental over Sonic lore (no judgment, I’m right there with you).
But of course, the movie promises much more than what’s been teased in the trailers. According to director Jeff Fowler, viewers can expect hints at new characters who might join the series in future installments. While nothing’s set in stone, I’ve got my fingers crossed for Big the Cat making an appearance.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is racing into cinemas on December 20, so mark your calendars!
