Okay, so, here’s the thing, right? Initially, Arken Age dropped on PSVR 2 and PC VR earlier this year, but — surprise! — it’s hitting Quest 3 and Quest 3S come November. I know, wild. It’s like, one of those games where you get seriously sucked in; legit one of the best single-player gigs I’ve played. And hey, the Quest version? Kinda shocked at how good it looks.
Anyway, Arken Age gives off this vibe — I can’t explain it properly, but it reminds me of Stormland and Lone Echo. Remember those from 2017 and 2019? They kinda nailed the whole ‘hands-on’ thing, super immersive stuff. This game? Totally cut from the same cloth.
And oh man, we’re talking combat — both up close and at a distance — plus a bunch of exploring. You’re climbing all over the place, vertically, which feels epic. Two buzzwords the devs probably threw around a lot? Embodiment and… uh, diegetic design. Yeah, those. We’ve talked about those concepts before somewhere — probably a coffee-fueled rant of mine.
Visually, it’s not slacking either. Like, you expect VR games to sometimes look like they’ve painted with a potato, but this one? Pretty slick, especially for Quest. I mean, it’s not exactly like the others when plugged in, but still, it’s impressive against what usually crosses over to the Quest.
Why does it look good there, you ask — or maybe not, but bear with me — it’s because they ditched the old Quest 2. They’re just sticking to the powerhouse babies, Quest 3 and 3S. Sorry, Quest 2, it’s been real.
So yeah, November’s the window they’re shooting for with this thing. Price? No clue yet, it’s all hush-hush. But hey, slap it on your wishlist on the Horizon store, and you’ll get a nice ping when it’s out. That’s technology for ya.
