A fresh batch of images claiming to show the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has surfaced online. As anticipation for the next installment of Nintendo’s popular console series builds, the rumor mill is busy. Though there’s no official word yet, these leaks have some fans speculating they’ve caught a sneak peek of Nintendo’s next big thing.
As usual, Nintendo is keeping tight-lipped about anything related to the new Switch. All that’s been confirmed is that the reveal is slated for before March 2025. Other details, like a release date or what new features the console might boast, remain a mystery. In the absence of official updates, enthusiasts are turning to leaks and speculation, with the latest images possibly giving the clearest picture yet of what’s to come.
The source of these images is Reddit user Nacam1, who shared photos allegedly from a manufacturer of Switch accessories. These shots show the console encased in a silicone cover. It’s not the first hint we’ve had, as an earlier trailer, which has since been deleted, might have teased the Switch 2 back in December. However, that footage was too blurry, revealing only an extra button on the Joy-Con. The new images, being much clearer, might validate that image as they also show a new button on the right Joy-Con.
Moving beyond just a new Joy-Con button, the pictures might support other earlier rumors. Nintendo patents that leaked recently suggested enhanced cable management, and these images show the console with two USB-C ports, which aligns with that idea. Additionally, there’s a U-shaped kickstand, similar to the more robust version seen on the OLED Switch, along with larger air vents that suggest improved performance or more efficient cooling for a possibly more powerful processor.
Interestingly, the Joy-Cons in these photos lack any rails to attach to the console, which could lend credence to theories about magnetic Joy-Cons, making the controllers easier to snap on and off. What the dock looks like or what technical enhancements the console will have remains unknown. While the images seem to fit with past rumors, there’s always the chance they’re fabricated based on those very rumors. Fans will have to wait for Nintendo’s official word to know what’s real.
