Devolver Digital is at it again, bringing their signature flair with the Devolver Delayed Awards—an amusingly irreverent nod to the inevitable delays of a few upcoming titles now set for release in 2025.
With their trademark wit, Devolver applauded developers for their “boldness and tenacity” in pushing these games into the next financial year. So, who triumphed in these tongue-in-cheek categories? Here’s the rundown of the “winners” alongside some fictional nominees:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Beyond the imaginary awards for imaginary games (let’s be honest, a Windshield Repair Simulator sounds oddly intriguing), the event also featured words from the developers behind the games actually experiencing delays. Notably, Skate Story’s own Sam Eng had a bit of a mishap, breaking his arm—so maybe cut them some slack if you’ve been eagerly waiting for its release. It’ll be worth the wait.
This isn’t Devolver’s first rodeo with creative announcement events. Back in 2023, they rolled out a spoof on the Nintendo Direct style, cheerfully revealing delays for titles such as The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story itself.
Though delays can be a headache from a business standpoint, it’s refreshing to watch Devolver prioritize quality over rushing unfinished products to market just for the sake of profits.
Plus, according to Devolver Digital’s official site, there are more anticipated titles down the line like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike, none of which have secured release dates yet.
