Oh man, so here’s a little tale for you. There’s this streaming site, Dropout—used to roll as College Humor back in the day. Anyway, now everyone’s all about this wild show they’ve got, Game Changer. Imagine a bunch of comedians tossed into these off-the-wall games. Hosted by Dropout’s own Sam Reich. Somewhere along the way, I thought, “Hey, could they spin this into a video game?” I mean, it’s kinda catchy.
I blagged an interview with Sam, trying to dig out if they ever considered going all pixel and joystick with their hit shows. My chat with him spiraled into this whole thing about how they come up with game ideas. But back to video games—straight outta our Zoom chat, Sam said, “Yeah, we’re thinking about it.”
Maybe it’d be like their smash-hit D&D thing, Dimension 20, or perhaps Game Changer. Hard to pin down, really. Sam’s all about keeping it in-house, which I get. They want it to be, you know, authentically theirs, like a homemade pie. Not just slam dunking their brand into some random dev’s lap. Makes sense, right? But then there’s the whole “money pit” aspect. Creating games ain’t cheap, and time’s like this slippery fish.
So I pushed a bit, like, “Is this just a pipe dream or for real?” Sam’s all, “Nah, we’ve got stuff brewing.” They’ve been fiddling around with mini web games, those kinda cute things you play while ignoring work emails. Dip a toe in the gaming waters, that sort of thing.
Sam’s vibe? Confident. Like, “It’ll happen. Eventually.” Can’t wait when it does, I guess. Oh, heads up, the Game Changer season 7 finale is all set to drop on August 11. Only on Dropout, so grab your popcorn.
We’ll see if they leap into pixels soon. Or not. Who knows. But for now, their comedy games are snugly wrapped on the internet.
