Yuji Horii is that one friend who just can’t keep a secret. You know the type, right? The guy who blurts out surprises and then laughs nervously. Anyway, at some comic convention in Napoli, Italy (wish I could’ve been there!), he kind of let it slip—there might be a Chrono Trigger remake for its 30th birthday. I mean, can you believe it? This is the RPG everyone loves, and Horii just kind of drops that nugget casually like it’s no biggie.
So, Horii was on this panel, chatting away, when someone asked about it. And then bam! He mentioned something about a remake. The panel host was like, “Wait, what was that?” Horii did this giggle-cover-mouth thing, and the translator played it cool with “you heard nothing.” Naturally, the crowd went wild. I wasn’t there, but I bet the energy was electric. Can almost hear the cheers bouncing off the walls.
This isn’t Horii’s first time accidentally spilling the beans. Back in July 2015—dang, that feels like ages ago—he confirmed the Dragon Quest VII and VIII games were coming to the West. Kind of a big deal since those games had been Japan-only for ages. Oh, and let’s not forget the time he casually mentioned Dragon Quest XI would hit the “NX,” which we now call the Switch. That was meant to be a secret too, oops.
And then there’s March 11th—Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary in Japan. Square Enix announces there’s more to come for the celebration. What exactly? Who knows? They love keeping us guessing. If a remake’s part of it, well, we’ll just have to wait and see. Or maybe hope Horii spills more beans.
