Wow, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is making a comeback! Isn’t it wild to think it first came out in 2002? That’s like, forever ago. Anyway — or wait, hang on — remember Onimusha: Warlords? This is its sequel, and we’re diving into a whole new storyline with Jubei Yagyu. He’s this samurai dude on a vendetta quest. Sounds intense, right?
Flash forward a decade after Onimusha: Warlords, and Nobunaga Oda, that demon overlord guy, is back, tossing his evil gaze towards Japan, and yeah, he wrecks Jubei’s village. Jubei returns home, finds it in pieces, and surprise, surprise, he’s ticked off. So, what does one do? Chase down Nobunaga for some payback. Along the way, he bumps into these four people who might become his buddies if you, like, give them the right stuff. I guess that’s how friendships work? Or maybe not. Choose wrong, and you’ve got a whole different story ending.
Speaking of gifts, they’re everywhere — think scavenger hunt, but with more dramatics. Shops, allies, randomly lying around. And each ally, they’ve got their own wishlist, like some kind of medieval Amazon. Nail it with the gifts, and one of them might even let you play as them for a bit. Neat, huh?
I chatted with some folks at Capcom, and they told me what gifts got the best reactions. Keep an eye out for those – could be useful.
Let’s chat about Ekei, okay? He’s this Buddhist priest but totally into money and booze. Picture this — you hand him a musical instrument or maybe a fan, and suddenly, he’s offering you a dance with the biggest grin ever. Who’d have guessed?
Then there’s Magoichi. He’s this gun guy from Kishu and loves books. But here’s the quirky part — give him just one book and he pouts like a kid told to share candy. Maybe wait till you’ve got a full set before you try being Santa.
Kotaro’s the baby of the group. Hand him a Tengu mask, and he’ll be all like, “Really? This is for old folks.” Oops, back to the drawing board.
What about Oyu? She’s all mysterious, wrapped up in Western armor. Handing her The Art of War? Might not be the way to her heart. Not that she’d say, but she does have that suspicious vibe.
Some reactions change if you give gifts in just the right order. Like, here’s this cool thing: give Magoichi raw fish followed by wasabi. It’s the little things!
Lastly — almost forgot — Director Motohide Eshiro said giving Ekei anything hair-related leads to… let’s just say, a touchy moment. Maybe leave the combs and hair oils for someone else?
There’s a ton more gizmos to find and reactions to laugh at in Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. Mix up those gifts, see what sticks, and dive back into this remastered world on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
And not to sound like a TV shopping host, but there’s some pretty enticing extras if you grab the game by June 2025. Think soundtracks, special outfits, all in glorious HD, with smooth controls to boot.
Right, that’s about the gist. Collect, gift, journey through feudal Japan, and maybe, just maybe, reclaim some destiny while you’re at it.
