Destiny 2’s Hunters Are Still Lacking a Crucial Element in a Key Build

Destiny 2 is undoubtedly in a better state now with its diverse build options and creative gameplay possibilities. However, it still clings to some outdated elements that could use an update. For instance, Storm’s Keep allows for powerful and consistent ranged DPS for Titans without the need for difficult combos like those involving Spirit of the Eternal Warrior. This new feature is the first of its kind, setting a precedent that Hunters are yet to fully benefit from, especially within their Void subclass.

The builds in Destiny 2 can be a deciding factor in whether you sail through challenges like Trials of Osiris or Grandmaster Nightfalls or find yourself repeatedly defeated. Hunters, in particular, have been thriving thanks to excellent Exotics, refreshing features, and thoughtful reworks, such as the powerful Prismatic Aspects and abilities, alongside the introduction of Gifted Conviction. Despite these advances, Hunter players are yearning for something more to enhance their gameplay with the Void subclass.

Currently, the Void Hunter builds face a limitation: they’re stuck with a single melee option, the Smoke Bomb. While Smoke Bomb boasts some impressive interactions, especially with the Omnioculus Exotic, it’s clear there’s room for growth. New additions, like On The Prowl Aspect, hint at the untapped potential of Nightstalkers, emphasizing the need for a new melee attack.

Introducing a Void melee attack focused on dealing damage would be a game-changer for Nightstalkers, aligning perfectly with their predatory nature. A melee that truly packs a punch would enhance the Nightstalker’s arsenal beyond the existing weapons and utility Super. Although Hunter’s Void kit isn’t lacking, aspects of it remain underutilized, such as the Exotic Graviton Forfeit. Its capabilities could shine brighter with a more potent melee attack.

There are notable gaps in the Void arsenal, particularly across all classes, where applying the Suppress debuff consistently is lacking. A tailor-made Void melee for Hunters could address this. Bungie could introduce several compelling options:

1. A ranged attack, maybe involving a thrown knife, shuriken, or a Light-infused arrow, that weakens targets and deals solid damage.
2. Alternatively, a melee attack with a suppressive function that inflicts substantial damage with a moderate cooldown.

These ideas align seamlessly with the Nightstalker’s themes and would be beneficial across various modes. For instance, GM Nightfalls favor the strategic safety of such additions, while PvP and Dungeons demand direct, impactful attacks.

Moreover, a new Void melee attack may open the door for players to use certain Fragments and Exotics more efficiently, like Echo of Leeching, which could compensate for the absence of the Devour perk and rejuvenate On The Prowl.

The possibility of Bungie introducing a new Void melee is uncertain, yet it could be a pivotal enhancement. Destiny 2’s upcoming Frontier’s season promises new horizons, and even if a novel melee option isn’t introduced immediately, it could still be implemented later—significantly enriching Void Hunter builds.
