PS Plus and Game Catalog Reduce Monthly PS4 Game Offerings

Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning a big change for PlayStation Plus subscribers next year that many PS4 users might want to consider. The company has announced that starting 2026, PS4 games won’t be as prominent in the monthly offerings for PlayStation Plus members. Although these games will still appear occasionally as part of the Monthly Games and Game Catalog perks, the focus will shift significantly towards the PS5 library.

In a detailed update on the PlayStation Blog, Sony explained this move is largely because a lot of gamers have upgraded to the PS5. Consequently, the subscription service needs to evolve accordingly. They reassured fans that while PS4 games might pop up now and then, the main draw will be PS5 titles from January 2026 onwards. Any PS4 games users have already redeemed won’t be impacted by these changes.

Adam Michel, the SIE director of game services, elaborated on this shift in strategy, saying, “As we notice more players enjoying their gaming experience on the PS5, the natural progression for PlayStation Plus is to lean more towards providing exciting PS5 titles. That means beginning January 2026, PS4 games won’t be a major part of the subscription’s benefits but will appear occasionally. We might still have games that work on both the PS4 and PS5 even after this date.”

Michel further assured gamers, “Rest easy, knowing that any PS4 game you’ve already claimed through PlayStation Plus is yours to keep using, provided you remain a member. As for Game Catalog, PS4 selections will still be playable until they are cycled out in our usual monthly update.”

It seems like Sony is paving the way for the future of gaming, fully embracing the capabilities of the PS5 while still giving a nod to its predecessor where possible.
