Disney Dreamlight Valley is doing something a bit unexpected. Up until now, since the game’s early days back in 2022, it’s been all about characters from Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Studios. But—hang on—I heard they’re finally diving into one of Disney’s major hits. As of April 23, with the Wonderland Whimsy Update (fancy name, right?), they’re rolling out some Star Wars stuff in the Premium Shop. Yeah, they’ve put out items from Disney Channel Originals and park references before, but this Star Wars thing? That’s big. Sure, people are pumped because it’s Star Wars, but not everyone is thrilled about what this means for the game’s direction.
Now, in the Star Wars haul: they’ve got Jedi robes, lightsabers (with a cool photo pose), and even an R2-D2 pal. Funny enough, there are also home decor bits in a Naboo Villa Bundle. Picture this: a Naboo Villa house style, wallpaper, and flooring. Plus, furniture like a Holotable (no clue what a holo-thing is), beds, fireplaces, dining tables—really the whole shebang. No actual characters yet, but it’s like, a hint there’s more Star Wars to come.
Star Wars being in Disney Dreamlight Valley kind of makes sense when you think about it. The game’s all about nostalgia, and that ties into the whole story. Players have to face these thorny memories in the game called The Forgetting. It’s as if you’re battling against losing your childhood memories, what with magic and Dreamlight saving the day. Eventually, plot twist! The big baddie is just a shadowy version of you, lost in some heartache, causing all these problems. In Act 1, you tackle this part of yourself, bringing healing to the Valley, but in later updates, that storyline drifts a bit.
Here’s the thing: Star Wars fits this nostalgia vibe way more snugly than, say, the MCU. The lore in Disney Dreamlight Valley really plays on that longing for the past. Star Wars can tug at those heartstrings for lots of folks, since it’s been around forever. Sure, Marvel’s a big deal now, but the MCU itself doesn’t dig as deep into the past as Star Wars does. Disney’s probably wise to focus on Star Wars characters for now. They might throw in MCU-inspired gear down the line, but Star Wars is the right move for keeping the story’s nostalgic magic alive.
