Hey there. Wow, so Square Glade Games is doing a thing, and I just gotta spill. We’re dragging Outbound, our chill open-world explorer vibe, over to PlayStation 5. We’ve all been itching to get this out. You start with—get this—an empty camper van! You scavenge, craft, build, and somehow morph that van into your dream home. Seriously, it’s like living off the grid but pixelated.
Anyway, I’m Marc Volger. Yup, co-founder here and a real-life chaotic mess. Gonna chat about Outbound, pulling Tobi Schnackenberg in along the way. He’s got some juicy deets on what lit the fuse for this game journey.
So, “cozyvival”—I know, who even comes up with these words? We did, it seems. During Alpha, players, for reasons I’ll never understand, just loved the survival bits—managing energy, gathering stuff, and all that jazz—mixed with that low-pressure life-in-a-van feeling. It’s not just survival, it’s cozyvival.
Okay, back to it. Outbound solo gives off hardcore “I’m the captain now” energy. You gather stuff, pimp out your van—freedom’s your new best friend. But throw in a few pals, and it’s a full-on roller coaster, like those road trips where you all speed off into the sunset. Yeah, multiplayer kicks things up a notch. And don’t get me started on PlayStation’s Portal. We’re jazzed about friends pulling out Portal devices on road trips. Play and travel? Sign me up.
Anyhow—ugh, I lost my train of thought—Tobi thought of Outbound when cruising from Germany to the Netherlands. Imagine seeing an old camper by solar panels and windmills. Bam, inspiration struck. Electric vans and sustainability snuck into our game DNA. Sun, wind, rain—they’re all fair game for energy. Recycling gives you blueprints—who knew being green could look this good?
Oh, quick side note—there’s a dog. I know, right? And yes, you can pet it. Your fluffy buddy fetches stuff, making the cozyvival cooler. They’re your sidekick, not just eye candy.
So there you have it. Video games whisk us into fantasies, but some like Outbound keep it closer to what’s real. We can’t wait for you to hit the road and see it for yourselves. PlayStation 5, here we come!
