Alright, so here’s the thing about Rainbow Six Siege X, aka the new season of rainbow shooting chaos that’s been causing a stir lately. Ubisoft finally did something that doesn’t make you want to throw your controller at the wall. They bumped up the Renown rewards. Why? Because players were not happy. Like, at all.
Let’s roll back to June-ish when Rainbow Six Siege X dropped alongside Operation Daybreak. Yeah, there was a lot of excitement, something like 142,000 players on Steam at one point. Mind-blowing, right? Doesn’t surprise me though; they beefed up almost everything — new maps, modes, gizmos, a whole six vs six mode. But man, those Renown payouts were pathetic. The players were like, “Yo, what’s up with this?” and Ubisoft was like, “Oops, missed that!”
Anyway — wait, backstory. So Alex Karpazis, the creative dude from Ubisoft, had a chat with PC Gamer. He was like, yeah, the Renown situation was kind of a mess, but “buffs” were on the way. I’ve got this mental image of him looking over spreadsheets of numbers and sipping coffee — not that I’ve seen his desk or anything. Maybe they dropped these Renown piles by 10% unintentionally, or just didn’t think anyone would notice. But oh boy, they noticed.
Now, you can get extra Renown through daily and weekly challenges, and if you level up, boom, there’s a nice 1,000 Renown waiting for you. Almost feels like collecting those little chocolates behind advent calendar doors or something. You get the drift.
So, Karpazis and crew basically aim to reward not just the hardcore 24/7 players, but also people who only suite up occasionally. Equal Renown for all modes — that’s their goal. The idea is not about easing the grind, but rather, well, they don’t want you to rage quit after a couple of frustrating hours.
One last thing, XP boosters — those little bonuses everyone secretly loves — they’re getting some attention down the road too. Ubisoft needs more time here (like we all don’t?) to figure out how these buffs mix things up. Can’t be making these boosters worthless, right?
So there it is. Or was it? I guess what I’m saying: it’s a game with promises of more Renown and maybe more fun. Or frustration. Just don’t quote me.
