Alright, so it’s Wednesday—or maybe not when you read this, but who cares, right? PlayStation has a new studio they want us to know about. teamLFG. Sounds like a handful of devs who won’t mess with you too much—or maybe they will. Apparently, they’re cooking up some multiplayer game inspired by “frog-type games.” Whatever that means.
Anyway, Sony’s big cheese Hermen Hulst was like, “Hey, check out my shiny new studio child!” He’s like a dad bragging about his kids at a BBQ. But, low-key, you can tell he’d totally write you out of the will if you flop in the live service chaos. Pressure much?
So, teamLFG is from Bellvue, Washington. It’s kind of a melting pot of newbies and old hands from places like Destiny and Halo. They’re breaking away from Bungie, trying to make waves on their own. They say they’re all about “action-based gameplay” and “richly social virtual worlds.” Talk about lofty vibes. They want to make games where you find friends and stuff. Sweet, I guess?
Oh, right, teamLFG is diving headfirst into PlayStation’s big live-service dreams. Apparently, their first gig is this “incubation project.” Sounds fancy, huh? But let’s be real, you probably heard about it through some not-so-sunny Bungie layoff announcement. Wild times.
This game they’re working on? They’re saying it’s a “team-based action game” with vibes from fighting games, platformers, and even frog-type games… whatever a frog-type game is. Somehow it’s set in this crazy mythic, science-fantasy universe that’s supposed to make us laugh. Guess we’ll see if they pull that off.
And frog games? Honestly, what on earth are frog-type games? It’s not Frogger, that’s for sure. Maybe they’ll give us this mashup of hero shooters and viral hits like Crazy Frog. Imagine that – Tekken meets Mario meets Dota 2, where everyone is this mid-2000s CGI frog. Wild, right?
There’s definitely talk about early access playtests, so they’re gonna want feedback—maybe yours, if you’re feeling generous.
So, what do you think? Is PlayStation diving into Crazy Frog territory exactly what we need right now? Are you curious about what teamLFG’s brewing up? Jump in and let us know because, honestly, I’m curious too.
Tell me your thoughts below, if you’re up for it.
