So, there’s this thing I came across — Stranger Than Heaven. Rings a bell? Probably not, unless you’re glued to gaming announcements like some of us (yeah, guilty). Anyway, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio rolled out this intense bit at Summer Game Fest 2025. Kinda makes you wonder how many trailers one game can have. This one, though, it flipped things a bit — felt sorta like L.A. Noire. That’s if you squint and tilt your head.
Picture this: A detective, Mako Daito, struts through this dazzling city. All neon lights, gritty alleys, and maybe—I dunno if I should mention this—shady characters doing shady character things. Something about it smacks of survival games, which I didn’t see coming. The dude’s got thirst and hunger meters, and you can bet your last dollar poor Mako’s decisions are no picnic. Oh, there’s this scene where he’s puffing a cig, and suddenly, BOOM! “Draws immense hostility when smoking.” Like, what? Just imagine every eyeball in the room turning. I mean, why does that stand out to me?
Speaking of scenes, there’s this oddly dramatic one. Mako runs into an American — surprise! The guy’s shocked Mako isn’t American. Mako spouts something deep about losing himself. It’s that classic dramatic flair you’d expect from the Yakuza folks. Bizarrely entertaining, but hey, I’m not complaining.
And then there’s the whole time jump thing happening — from 1914 to who knows when. Could be all over the century. Just thinking about it gives me a headache. They’ve been hush-hush, though, telling folks not to try and overthink it. Easier said, right?
Oh, mark your calendars or whatever. 2026 is when this baby’s slotted to launch. Let’s see if it lives up to the mix of confusion and excitement it’s throwing our way.
