Hey, so you know how you wander through game stores these days and it feels like you’re tripping over platformers everywhere? Yeah, that’s me trying to pick one and getting lost in the sea of pixels and nostalgia. It’s like, how do these developers even make their stuff stand out, right? Somehow, I ended up diving into this game called Love Eternal at PAX East 2025. Honestly, no clue how I ended up there, but boy, was it a ride.
Alright, quick side note: Love Eternal is this crazy project by a duo of siblings. They kind of poured their Oregon-to-Los Angeles moving story into it. You know, with the wildfires—a theme that’s a bit close to home for them, I guess. And then there’s this whole vibe that screams “Perfect Blue.” Like, the game is dripping with that anime essence, especially in its storyline.
So, you kick off playing as Maya. Imagine this cozy family chat in her suburban pad, right? Then the phone rings—that classic horror movie setup. She picks it up, and surprise! Family’s gone. Poof. Plus, outside looks like a history book threw up. Ancient and all jumbled. Gave me whiplash just thinking about it.
And just when you’re getting comfy, bam, you hit these platforming segments. Maya, she can do this crazy gravity flip thing—walking on ceilings like it’s no big deal. She can’t cheat and flip again till she lands, though, which kinda forces you to strategize a bit. But hey, there are these red stones—grab one and she can do the flip thing midair. It’s all about those twisty puzzles. By the end, I was seeing shades of Celeste and VVVVVV.
Anyway, the devs want you to think your way through these brain-bending traps while getting hooked on this unexpected story. There’s talk of escaping a castle made of memories and some god snatching a kid from her family—or something to that effect. Totally expecting to walk away both awed and slightly traumatized when it drops later this year. It’ll be on Xbox One, Switch, PS4/5, and PC, but don’t quote me on the specifics. My brain’s still recovering from the platforming chaos.
