Okay, so there’s this game coming out, Drag x Drive or something, for the new Switch 2 from Nintendo. Honestly, it kind of caught everyone off guard when they announced it. I didn’t really expect a wheelchair basketball game with mouse controls. But hey, they just dropped a gameplay trailer that gives us a taste of what’s going on before it launches on August 14. Can we talk about how it’s called Drag “and” Drive? Like, why not just use “and” in the title? Anyway, moving on.
So, the trailer’s like seven minutes long, showing off how you actually play this thing. Tricks and stuff, but also what happens when you’re not in the middle of a match. Lots to take in.
Oh, and get this: during the Pure Nintendo Podcast, we all wondered what kind of modes this game will have besides the usual 3-on-3 stuff. Looks like they have minigames lined up? Between matches. Kind of cool, I guess. There’s online play, duh, but also training mode and you can play against bots if you’re anti-social or something.
Nintendo’s got this list of features laid out:
So, you can jump into these online lobbies—strangers from all corners of the planet. Seriously, once there are 6 people, the game kicks off. Up to 12 folks can join in this place called a Public Park.
Or, if you’re not into crowds, you can chill with buddies in Friend Parks—basically private hangouts where you can decide what you’ll mess around with. Two courts, max 6 players per court, and other random challenges to climb the leaderboard.
Prefer chilling solo? You can battle computer players to practice, which I might need because I’m terrible at these things.
There are three driver… roles? Guard, Center, Forward. Each one’s got different stats. Too many choices, right? Find the one that suits your vibe.
Tired of basketball? Take a break and hit the Circuit Sprint minigame, or dive into shooting contests, Rebound Scramble, and jump rope. Yeah, you heard right—jump rope.
Crush challenges, grab trophies, and customize your look. Helmets, armor, whatever floats your boat. Mix and match till you feel like a true boss.
Does this all sound as quirky to you as it does to me? Could this weird little game become Nintendo’s next big thing? Only time knows.
But wait, there’s more. Before the big day, you can dive into a Global Jam from August 9-10. Just download the demo and mess around with friends:
– August 9, 3 am to 7 am PT
– August 9, 5 pm to 9 pm PT
– August 10, 9 am to 1 pm PT
Can’t wait to see if this game’s going to knock it out of the park—or court, I guess—when it finally hits on August 14. Catch you on the flip side!
