Oh man, so Nintendo is up to something — again. They’re tweaking the prices for the Switch gang up in Canada. Like, the original Switch, OLED, and even the cute little Switch Lite — everything’s getting a price makeover. And don’t forget those tiny Mario figures (Amiibo?) and those digital doodads on Nintendo Switch Online.
But here’s the kicker — nobody knows if it’s going up or down. Seriously, Nintendo dropped this hint like it’s some kind of suspense movie or something. Anyway, they’re saying August 1 is the D-Day, at least according to their online store in Canada. They muttered something about “market conditions” — which is corporate talk for who-knows-what. Inflation? Tariffs? The weather? Your guess is as good as mine.
Right now, if you’re curious, the OG Switch is going for CAD $399, OLED’s a bit steeper at CAD $449, and the Lite’s a snack at CAD $259. Rumor has it (or my grocery shopping instincts) that prices might tick up by 5 to 10%. But who knows, right?
Flashback moment: Nintendo pulled a similar stunt before. Remember when they delayed Switch 2 pre-orders? Blamed market stuff and those Trump-era tariffs. Pre-orders were in April but they pushed it. In a twist, though, they still launched the thing on June 5. And, spoiler alert, Switch 2 ain’t part of this price shuffle, so if you’ve got your eyes on the new beast with its big screen and cool guts, you’re safe. For now.
