Okay, so the deal is Capcom – you know, that big player in the Japanese gaming world – just dropped some numbers on us. And, drumroll, it’s all about those yen signs. Like, a whopping ¥45.5 billion in sales over three months up to June 30th. That’s around $302.2 million. Wild, right?
Now, what’s really pulling in the cash? Games. Duh. They call it Digital Contents, but really we’re talking about stuff like Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil Village, the Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Street Fighter 6. Funny thing, Devil May Cry 5 kind of rode the wave thanks to a Netflix anime. Seriously, anime and video games – weirdly perfect combo.
And, hey, speaking of Devil May Cry 5, it hit 10.5 million units sold. Just last quarter, 1.7 million of those. Resident Evil Village? It’s sitting pretty at 12.2 million. Resident Evil 4 is at 10.6 million. Street Fighter 6? Five million. Yeah, the Nintendo Switch 2 launch probably helped. Like, how could it not?
Total game copies sold by Capcom during this time? 14.16 million. That’s up nearly half from last year’s 9.53 million. Numbers can be fun, sometimes.
But here’s the kicker: the operating profit, it spiked crazy, up 90.8% to ¥24.6 billion. That’s $163.4 million if you’re counting dollars. It’s one of those moments where you just go, “Wow, gaming really does print money.” Or maybe, Capcom just knows their audience. Or maybe it’s both.
